Initial Stages of Production - Seeking Tips and Feedback

Hey everyone,

Does anyone have any tips with casting the actors to each character in the Moments? Will be holding auditions in the coming months for original Laramie so would love to hear how other people cast the 8 actors to the characters or can point me towards some resources.

Also pretty early but also wanting resources for projector material too.

Cheers,

Nicky

Hi Jennifer, oh wow that stuff looks great. Not sure where you are based, but our copy of the script from the rights people in Australia does not have that additional resource. I would be grateful if you didn't mind if you could email me anything you have found useful, but all good if rather not! My email is nickyevenj@gmail.com. We are holding our auditions at the end of September so have to start preparing the audition pack now. Thanks again for your help. Cheers, Nicky

The only resource that already existed was the original breakdown in the front of the script.  From there it was all choices I made specifically for my production.

Thanks Jennifer for the feedback. Very helpful. Do you happen to have a link to some of the resources you referred to for me work off in preparing for the audition? Many thanks.

I started with breaking down which roles (M1, M2, M3, M4, F1, F2, F3, F4) would play each character.  I began with the original Tectonic breakdown and made small adjustments and then filled in the ensemble roles using a spreadsheet similar to a French Scene Breakdown with roles across the top and moments down the first column.  Then I placed their character in the intersecting boxes.  This helped me see what was possible to overlap.  Once I knew who was playing what I created 8 audition sides, 1 for each role.  For each role I selected 3 contrasting monologues and typed them out on the sheet.  I made sure to include big moments I needed to see.  I did not include any narrator lines and sometimes cut the monologue down for time.  I did include the one line description of each of the three characters at the top of the page to help inform the actor.  I didn't always have someone read all 3, but if they were being considered for that role I did.  The main role breakdown list was posted where they signed in for reference and the sides were laid out for them to look at prior to auditions so they could see what they may be interested in reading as well.  Hope this helps!  I am currently 2 weeks in to rehearsal and my prep work for auditions paid off very well!
